ON A PERSONAL NOTE:
Always up for a cupcake, when I’m not working to end violence I can be found trying to get into the lotus position, watching anything funny, or running after my 3 kids.
As a therapist for over 10 years I intersected daily with the human cost of power-based personal violence. I believed that the best I could do was help glue shattered people back together. I didn't dare to hope that I could prevent them from being broken in the first place. As the mother of 3, I spent too many years resigned to the fact that one of my children would end up carrying a story of their own assault. The first time I heard about Green Dot, this all changed. Hope was awakened in me and I have since been propelled into this work with a sense of urgency and optimism. I have spent the past four years watching people across the country be inspired and mobilized to action. I become more certain each day that as a direct result of our work, rates of power-based personal violence will go down. Not long ago my youngest daughter gave me a pin that said "My Mother is a Goddess" (mind you she's on the right track) and I realized that the window of time in which she believes I can do anything is limited. She has inspired me to have the audacity to believe that I can and will be a part of making this world safer.
